JOHN (JACK) WESLEY BENNEYWORTH Jack passed away at Etobicoke General Hospital on January 28, 2011 at the age of 85. Born January 10, 1926 in Toronto, Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peg), boys Jon (Jill), Jamie (Samah) and Robbie (Julie); and grandchildren Kati, Mac, Audrey, Garrett and Sarah. Jack attended Parkdale Collegiate (Toronto) and Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) . He was a true all-around sportsman. As well as being an excellent athlete, he excelled at coaching. Jack was the co-founder of the Bloordale Baseball league and for over 10 years coached in the West Mall Hockey Assn He was named the Etobicoke Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 1972. He was presented a National Achievement Award for Distinguished Performance in the field of Amateur Athletics in 1987. Jack enjoyed most of his time playing tennis at the Boulevard Club where he was also a former member of the Board of Directors. He skied at Craigleith Ski Club and spent summers with family and friends at the cottage on Georgian Bay. He represented Canada many times on Gordon Trophy, Britannia Cup and International Lawn Tennis Club of Canada (IC) teams. Jack was a member and served on the Board of Directors for the IC of Canada and was an honorary member of the IC of the United States. His love of family, friends, sports and Canada was only rivalled by his love of convertible sports cars, joke telling and jujubes. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at the Boulevard Club on Sunday, February 13th from 2-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IC Canada Junior Development Fund c/o David Dimmer, 446 Prince Edward Drive, Toronto, ON M8X 2M1.
