Congratulations to the Bloordale Bombers Rookieball Select Team 1 for winning the Annual Lloyd McConnie Rookieball Tournament.
Bloordale eased their way through the round robin with wins over Toronto Playgrounds, North York and East York. During these games the Bloordale boys all hit the ball well and their defensive abilities shone with many spectacular individual efforts.
The semi-finals were always going to be a tough test as Bloordale had to play their local EBA competitors from Royal York. However, just as they had done in the round robin, the Bloordale team came out ready to play and got off to a fast 13-1 lead. Bloordale held off their strong competitors with a 16-1 mercy victory for a berth in the final.
In the final game Bloordale got off to a slow start against a good North Toronto team. In fact in the first inning Bloordale allowed more runs than they had all tourney and found themselves down 4-1 after one. Things didn’t turn around immediately because Bloordale found themsleves down 5-2 after two innings. However after a positive team talk, and a team effort to get back to their basics, Bloordale got all of their bats going and played steady defensively to win 19-6.
The parents and coaching staff from Bloordale enjoyed the tournament tremendously and wanted to publicly thank the EBA organizing committee who put in countless volunteer hours to make this tournament a success on and off the field. It was a super tournament win or lose.
This Bloordale Rookieball Select Team will continue to play in the local EBA loop and is also soon heading to Niagara Falls to once again play a tournament against AAA and AA teams which is always a good challenge for this well-rounded group of baseball players. Good luck boys!
