Bloordale wins Championship in Marathon Style!
Bloordale endured a 3 game marathon on Sun. Aug 18 to take the 2012 Minor Peewee ‘A’ TBA Championship against arch rivals, Martingrove White Sox.
After starting the tournament the day before with a 9-5 loss to Scarborough, Bloordale was one game from being eliminated. The road to the championship was steep as the Bombers had to string together 4 consecutive wins.
It started with a 25-7 pounding of North York on Saturday afternoon. Then on Sunday, they won a nail-biter against Scarborough 13-11. Scarborough was a team that gave Bloordale a tough time all year but the team endured. Now it was on to the White Sox. While Martingrove had the advantage of only being required to win 1 game to win the championship, Bloordale had to beat them twice in the double elimination format. Coach Naeem Siddiq encouraged the boys to focus on winning one inning at a time. The strategy worked as Bloordale won the first game 10-7.
Martingrove no longer had the comfort of a 1 game advantage and used their best pitchers during the second game. By this time, the Bloordale Bombers were in full flight. In confident fashion, they mercied Martingrove 18-8 in the sixth inning to capture the championship.
The next stop for Bloordale are the OBA Provincial Championships in Oshawa starting Friday, August 31.
