Mosquito Select team goes 2-1 in first tournament of the year

by | Jun 21, 2012

The Bloordale Mosquito Select Team did our league proud in their first tournament of the season winning two of their three round-robin games. Our pitchers were in fine form and the Bloordale bats were on fire during the tournament allowing us to score 37 runs in three games.
With three of the four teams in our division ending on a 2 and 1 record we were eliminated from the competition by a slim margin on the tie breaker of runs against divided by innings played.
We defeated Thornhill 9 to 3 on Friday night and beat a rallying Georgetown team 17 to 13 on Saturday afternoon. However, some of our best baseball came during the game 2 loss against a strong North Toronto team. Trailing 12 to 1 coming into the bottom of the 2nd inning, the boys showed their true ability putting together a 9 run inning on 7 hits including a 5 run rally with 2 outs. In the last inning Bloordale got the tying run to the plate but was unable to convert. The final score of 15 to 11 for North Toronto was reflective of a hard fought game with each team fighting to the last strike.
All of the boys deserve congratulations on playing some great baseball and for fighting to the last out even when we were behind. This weekend was a great demonstration of teamwork and team spirit.
