The Bloordale Bombers Green 9U Select team kicked off their summer tournament season with a win at the Lloyd McConnie Annual Memorial Tournament!
Lloyd McConnie is a local tournament hosted annually by the Etobicoke Baseball Association. The tournament has a long and storied history – winning it is a very prestigious accomplishment. This year there were sixteen teams participating from across the region and the province. All games were played at the Etobicoke Valley diamonds.
After defeating the Oakville A’s, Martingrove White Sox (Grey), and Newmarket Hawks in the round-robin, the Bombers won their division, advancing to the semi-finals against the Royal York Cardinals (White). This game provided the Bombers with an opportunity to showcase their defensive skills, winning 11-1. The finals against Annette kept fans on the edge of their seats, coming back from an early deficit to win 25-13!
We are proud of the fact that every player on the team contributed to our team’s success.
Head coach Derek Churchill-Smith best summarized the tournament: ‘The kids played well all weekend. We hit the ball very well and managed to raise our defensive game. We are proud of the fact that every player on the team contributed to our team’s success.’
Thank you to the amazing coaches and enthusiastic supporters for their encouragement. With incredible drive and amazing teamwork, the Bloordale Bombers Green earned their “Champions” title. You made us proud!
