Do I need a Release?

by | Aug 19, 2019

The world of Select and Rep Baseball can get very complicated around the question of releases, playing rights and roster limits based on where you live and where you want to play baseball.
If you are trying out for a Bloordale Rep team (A or AA) or if you are currently a Bloordale player looking to try out for another club’s rep program , here is a quick reference guide:

  • If you live in Etobicoke you do not need a release to try out for an Etobicoke Baseball Association member rep team
  • If you live in anywhere within the City of Toronto boundaries, outside of Etobicoke, you do not need a release to tryout to for an Etobicoke Baseball Association member rep team
  • If you live in anywhere within the City of Toronto boundaries, outside of Etobicoke, and are offered a position on an Etobicoke Baseball Association member rep team roster, you will be required to get a release from your home association (York, North York, Annette, Toronto Playgrounds etc) prior to signing with an EBA member league rep team
  • If you live in the 905 area code (outside the City of Toronto boundaries) you require a release from your home association (ie Mississauga Majors, Mississauga North, Vaughan, Markham etc) BEFORE you can try out for an Etobicoke-based team.
  • If you live in Etobicoke and want to try out for a team outside of Etobicoke but within Toronto, you do not need a release.
  • If you live in Etobicoke and are offered a position with another team outside of Etobicoke but within Toronto, you will need a release from your local club (Bloordale, Martingrove, Rexdale, Royal York) AND the EBA
  • If you live in Etobicoke and want to tryout for a team in the 905 area code (outside the City of Toronto boundaries) you require a release from your home association ( Bloordale, Martingrove, Rexdale, Royal York) and the EBA and TBA BEFORE you can try out for a team outside of Toronto

When it comes to signing players, there are limits on how many out of region players and imports each team can carry so it is important when you are trying out to let the person you are trying out for know where you live.

Rules for release requirements can be found on the Toronto Baseball Association Website and within the TBA Constitution
