The bantam select team worked hard to stay atop during league play and entering playoffs. The team succeeded in this and finished the regular season strong.
Entering the league playoff they drew the first game against Annette on Thursday Aug 15 and won the game 22 -1 to advance to the 1:00pm game Sat which happened to be against Royal York 1 the younger team as they defeated the older Royal York team on Thursday night.
Bloordale came out on top of that game 14 -2 to move to the undefeated game Sunday morning at 8am. Yes, a group of 14 and 15 year olds playing at 8 am might prove interesting but the boys came to play.
We faced Rexdale who had gone 2-0 as well and beat them 14-0 and had to now face Martin Grove in the 1pm Sunday game. We held the upper hand as Martin Grove had already lost. It was a must win for the White Sox which can be dangerous since they had everything to lose and we had not lost yet.
The game started out tight but we were able to score a couple runs and early and then kept threatening every inning and came out on top 11 – 1 and would play again at 4pm. We found that we would face Rexdale again in the 4pm game and if we win we would be champions but if we lost we would have to play them again.
The boys were tired and Rexdale put up a good fight as the game was close through the first 3 innings but we were able to add some cushion and won the game 6-1. Bloordale had won the championship and this was the fourth tournament in a row that the team had gone without a loss.
Bloordale bantam select are now off to Provincials!
