Mosquito Selects Win Vaughan Tourney

by | Aug 15, 2014

The Bloordale Minor Mosquito Select team recently took home the championship hardware from the Vaughan Select Tournament in an extra inning final game victory.
The boys played solidly throughout the weekend going 5 – 1 on their way to the championship title.

The tournament started with a convincing 13 -3 win against the Brampton Jays on Friday night. On Saturday morning the bats came alive for a convincing 21-5 victory over the Barrie Red Sox. Then the bats went silent as the boys fell quickly to the host Vaughan Vikings #1 team 12 – 2 in 4 innings.

So instead of getting a BYE into the Semi Finals, the Bombers had to play the Newmarket Hawks in a Saturday evening Quarter finals under the lights. They battled through the weather and some early game jitters but finally pulled away with 13-3 victory.

With almost a full pitching roster, Bloordale was in a strong position heading into their Semi Final against the Vaughan Vikings #2 team. The boys found themselves down 6-2 after 3 innings and looked to be emotionally spent. But with Coach Cam offering to shave half of his moustache should the boys win it all, the energy came back in a big way. The Bombers went on to torch the Vaughan Vikings for 14 more runs on the way to a 16-8 victory.

This set up a re-match against Vaughan Vikings #1 for the title.
The boys quickly built up a 9-2 lead and looked confident. But Vaughan chipped away and the game went in to extra innings.

The boys scored a run in the top of the 8th which led to the drama in the home half. Vaughan worked themselves into a bases loaded situation with only one out. The Bombers defense dug in and got out of the inning. It was a great game by both sides with a solid display of pitching and defense.

BOMBERS WIN BOMBERS WIN.

We will one day look back on this tournament and always remember the mantra that pulled us through in the end.
“Shave the stache, Shave the stache, Shave the stache”

Congratulations Boys. You continue to make us proud.
